Santander has its Parayas airport with several daily connections to Madrid and Barcelona only – if you are planning to extend your trip in Spain by going to other destinations, you would first have to travel to a larger airport, Madrid’s Barajas for example, where you can find vuelos Mallorca, Alicante and even international.
The Bilbao (BIO) airport is just over 100 kilometers or an hour and 15 minutes travel and has daily connections to many European destinations. From Bilbao airport one can take a taxi to Santander or he/she can take the “Alsa-Turytrans” bus at the Bilbao bus station, the “Termibus” to the Santander bus station.
To arrive by car take A8 to Santander.
The city of Santander can also be reached by train—the RENFE station-- from Madrid. It can also be reached from Irun-Hendaya and Bilbao through the EUSKO TREN although one should be prepared for the long travel time.
From the Santander train station a traveler can take a taxi just in front of the main entrance.
"Alsa" buses arrive to Santander from many Spanish towns---Madrid, Barcelona, Irún-Hendaye in the French border, etc. From the Santander Bus Station, taxis wait in front of the two entrances to take him/her to a hotel.
There is a ferry traveling twice a week, linking Santander and Plymouth with the trip good for one day. From the "Estacion Maritima de Ferries" the traveler takes a ride at either the Alfonso XII taxi stop or the Avenida Calvo Sotelo bus stop.
When using a car one enters Santander through the Marques de la Hermida street and then follow Sardinero in the road signs.
