The Palacio del Mar's menu usually runs up to US $20 per person for an appetizer, entree, dessert and wine.

The Puerto Chico, El Mastil is a high-end favorite serving up mainly seafood and an expanded menu of culinary delights. Tourists wanting to sample Santander and Cantabria region’s gastronomic influences may want to try out the Hotel del Oso (Hotel of the Bear) along the route to Picos de Europa in Cosgaya.

There visitors can partake of one of the most typical dishes of the region -- cocido montanes, a typically robust dish consisting of chickpeas or white kidney beans with chorizo (Spanish sausage).

The Hotel San Roman de Escalante, a special Relais and Chateaux property, has a fine kitchen. A tasting menu costs about $40 per person, and includes anchovies with Garmillas cheese, rice mixed with codfish, stewed mackerel, a selection of Cantabrian cheeses and a wide array of desserts.

Here one finds all kinds of cakes, sweets and gateaux, cold meats, and alcoholic drinks as well as pre-cooked dishes. For special occasions like a birthday or anniversary or a simple get-together the shop also offers deliveries. Open hours are from 10am - 1pm and 4:30 - 8:30pm Mon - Sat.

Tiendas K - Unusual and delicious sweets

This store sells sweets and dried food products from various countries and as such, offer a diverse even unusual range like mint and lemon-flavored pumpkin seeds, pistachio nuts from Iran and English chocolates containing whisky, brandy or vodka and sweets from the Far East. All are wrapped in individual, methacrylate packets. Dried fruits are the most popular in the city center branch where there are fewer children while chocolates and caramels top the most favored list at the Avenida Valdecilla branch.

Other branches are at Tiendas K in Santander, at Marques de la Hermida 64, Avenida Valdecilla 23, Hernan Cortes 35 and Castilla 23 and 25. Open from 10am - 2:30pm and 4 - 8:30pm daily.
Movellán - Cold meat specialists

The butchers who work here belong to the Cantabrian guild of pork and cold meat butchers. They offer top quality meat and cheese products like the famous Iberian ham and shoulder and Manchego cheese.

Aside from preserves and vegetables like pimientos de piquillo (slightly hot) red peppers, the shop likewise offers Rioja wine to its valued customers. Open hours are from 9am - 2pm and 5:30 - 9pm Mon - Fri; 9am - 2:30pm Sat

Gómez - Cakes and similar products

At this heaven of a confectioner's shop, they make homemade bread, pastries, cakes and gateaux and Cantabrian specialty products like sobaos (cream cakes) and quesadas pasiegos (similar to cheesecakes), which are then sold at various branches in the city.

Their other branches are located at San Jos 22, Paseo de Pereda 7 and at the Valdecilla shopping center. The head office is at Adarzo 167 in Peacastillo, and the bakery at Lucia 26. Open from 9am - 1pm and 4:30 - 8pm Mon - Fri; 9am - 1pm Sat.

Heladería Monerris - Cool ice cream treats

This ice cream parlor offers both a wide range of flavors and artistic preparations of this famous summer treat. Its specialty the turrn (nougat) ice cream is considered among the best in Santander and Cantabria and fans have been known to form long queues during the Christmas season. However for the patient it’s worth the wait to sample authentic nougat ice cream. Open from 11am-10pm daily.
Cafetería Frypsia - Superb quality and incredible ice-cream

Considered an upmarket café in Santander, its main courses and sandwiches are widely patronized as are its various kinds of coffee. Cafeteria Frypsia also has exceptional ice cream which comes in appealing names like Frypsia, Mozart and Meringata. Heladería Frypsia - Elaborate ice cream

Located opposite the Pereda gardens, this ice cream parlor offers both a wide array of ice cream and a great-looking glass-covered terrace to boot. Visitors are in for a treat with concoctions like the Carioca, made with coffee, whipped cream and a liqueur or the Mozart, with syrup, fruit, a liqueur and several flavors of ice cream.

The ice cream parlor has a cafeteria just next door, with a wide selection of sandwiches, set dishes and tortilla (omelette) appetizers. Open from 9am - 11pm daily.

Heladería La Italiana - Try the cheese ice cream

Located opposite the Primera Playa (First Beach) in El Sardinero, this ice cream parlor has a wide selection of flavors including the unique Cabrales goat cheese ice cream. It also has a cafeteria which offers house specials like the leche merengada (tastes like rice pudding but without the rice) or the delicious nata ice cream. The place has a nice looking outside terrace, with the waiters dressed in sailor outfits, complementing the establishment’s site near the beach. Open from 11am - midnight daily (spring through autumn); 11am - 9pm daily (winter).

Heladería Regma - To cool down

For those wanting to beat the summer heat, the Heladeras Regma is the place to be.

Conveniently situated in strategic areas of the city: in Calle Burgos, Primera Beach in El Sardinero, or Paseo Pereda, in addition to the address listed above. Here one can enjoy life’s simple pleasures by partaking of their ice cream in one of its summer terraces with a good view of Santander. This parlor also has a cafeteria and cake shop. Open from 11am - 11pm daily.
Heladería Venecia - A choice of flavors

Situated right in the center of Santander, one finds this small, simply decorated ice cream parlor with ice cream varieties like the soft toffee, Cantabrian cream, Rocher, or covered in chocolate as well as good coffee. Austriaca (La) - Opposite the marina

This place is a favorite of affluent middle- and upper-class people for its location, quality of service and wide selection of coffee with names like Cupid, Amadeus and Adagio. It also offers something for the kids like milkshakes (Va Lctea, Bora-bora, Borneo, etc) and there are non-alcoholic cocktails and an array of sandwiches, too.

All this luxury can be enjoyed inside or outside on the terrace, with views of the marina. Open from 8 a.m. to midnight daily.

Bahía 2000 - Functional, modern

Conveniently located near a train station and opposite a bus station, any passenger can drop by here to relax before a trip. The decor is contemporary and modern and the bar large and full of appetizers: cheese and ham bites, sandwiches, portions of tortilla, etc., all reasonably priced.

The place is very convenient for working people who have to eat out as it has a varied menu. It also has cold and hot raciones (larger portions than tapas). Open from 7am - 11pm daily.

Royalty - Fantastic cakes and omelettes

One of the busiest cafeterias in Santander, it is spread over two floors and draws in both the young and adult crowds. Here one can always find a free table and have a hearty breakfast or the traditional Spanish afternoon snack of hot chocolate and churros (fritters you roll in sugar) or an aperitif before dinner.

The cafeteria has all sorts of tortillas (vegetarian, ham and cheese, tuna fish omelettes), a big variety of raciones (larger servings than tapas), including morcilla (black pudding), chorizo and callos (tripe), as well as sandwiches and combo platters. Open from 7 - 2:30am daily.
