A religious town Suances is, especially since it abounds in religious - historical establishments. The Convent of Santo Domingo is a historical establishment that is believed to be the same site where the old Church of Santo Domingo de la Historians was built, way back 1078. The Baredda Towers can also be seen within the vicinity. The towers are a living reminder of a primeval castle that once stood in Suances.

Another beauty is the home of a highly acclaimed 19th century poet, Fernando Velarde. He has an impressive ancestral abode in Hinojedo that has a distinctive architectural design. Also, an interesting historical piece of land is the town’s medieval cemetery. The Puente Avíos and Ongayo Parish Churches are also two of the town’s significant landmarks.

For nature lovers, one would love to drive steep cliffs to get to Ballotta Point and Cortiguera Point. Situated near the Barreda - Suances road, both offer a fantastic view of the San Martín de la Arena Estuary and the wetlands that surround it. The Cortiguera even has inscriptions of famous verses of Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo, the renowned Cantabrian scholar, historian, writer and literary critic.
