Town history

The point where the rivers of Besaya and Saya meet is where you will find the lovely town of Suances. The town is formed around the borders of San Martin de la Arena, otherwise known as the Suances River. This beautiful estuary then forms a port between the Punta Del Dichose cliffs. Suances was cited by numerous historians to be a vital point of entry along the Cantabrian sea. Roman Portus Blendium, famous for its commercial and naval activities, made the town very famous during the old days.

Being situated in the coast, the sea is a vital source of livelihood. Consequently, most people of the town are fishermen. The town is very near Torrelavega, where most of the Suances’ locals scout for work and find permanent employment. Tourism is rapidly booming and is becoming one of the town’s primary economic boosters. What makes Suances a hotspot for tourists are its top of the class accommodations, gastronomic delights and the soothing feel of its coastline.
